  1. Private contractors working for EYDAP to repair faults in its water network have announced a “complete suspension of operations.”
  2. They accuse the company’s management of keeping their pay frozen at 2012 levels—and in some cases reducing it—leaving them unable to cover basic expenses.
  3. The halt means daily faults will go unrepaired, leading to major water losses at a time when Attica faces the threat of drought and households are bracing for higher water bills to fund new management projects, according to Efimerida ton Syntakton.

Private contractors who repair faults in EYDAP’s water network will launch a “complete suspension of operations” starting tomorrow, according to a report in Efimerida ton Syntakton.

Their union has filed a series of legal notices against the company’s management, accusing it of “utter indifference.” They say their pay has remained unchanged since 2012, and in some cases has even been reduced, leaving them unable to meet basic costs. The union’s president cited a telling example: the rental of an essential machine, for which EYDAP paid €96 in 2012.

Today, despite soaring material and labor costs, the company pays just €91. He also claimed that other public agencies, such as Civil Protection, pay several times more for the same equipment.

These contractors operate around 200 machines with their own staff, handling repairs across the Attica region.

The decision to halt work means that daily faults in EYDAP’s aging network will go unrepaired.

This could result in significant water losses at a time when Attica is already under threat from drought. Meanwhile, projects worth €10 billion have been announced to address water scarcity—plans expected to lead to further increases in household water bills, the report noted.

Contractors currently manage some 200 machines with their own staff, ensuring round-the-clock repairs across the region. Their absence is expected to put immediate pressure on the system.
