As Israel requests an extension until Friday to respond to a ceasefire proposal already accepted by Hamas, the country’s Ministry of Defense has approved the final attack plan on Gaza City, mobilizing 60,000 reservists for its execution.
The 60-day ceasefire proposal, put forward by Egypt and Qatar, includes the release of some Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and the temporary halt of the full invasion of Gaza.
Some far-right members of Israel’s governing coalition have already rejected the proposal, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has clearly stated that a ceasefire will only occur if all hostages are released.
Israel is in talks with South Sudan regarding the mass transfer of Palestinians from Gaza to there.
Of the 251 hostages abducted on October 7, 2023, 49 remain held in Gaza, with 27 confirmed dead, according to the military.
The UN stated this week that the level of humanitarian aid is far below what is needed to “prevent mass starvation,” while deaths in Gaza have surpassed 62,000, including 19,000 children.
