Six private universities are set to begin operating in Greece this October, following a recommendation by the National Authority for Higher Education to the Ministry of Education on Friday, August 1st.
According to reporting by Kathimerini, the approved institutions are:
- University of York, which already collaborates with City College in Thessaloniki
- Keele University, already partnered with Metropolitan College
- The Open University, working with Anatolia College in Thessaloniki
- London Metropolitan University, collaborating with City Unity College in Athens
- University of Derby, partnered with Mediterranean College
- University of Nicosia, which does not collaborate with any Greek private college and has established its own facilities for its branch in Greece
Five applications from private universities did not move forward, while one was reportedly withdrawn at the last minute, the newspaper notes.
Among those not included in the recommendation list are:
- The UK’s University of East London and Queen Margaret University, both of which intended to partner with Metropolitan College
- University of West London, which planned to collaborate with BCA College
- University of Essex, which was to work with Aegean College
