A 65-kilometer stretch of the Olympia Odos motorway, linking Pyrgos to Alissos (near Patras), officially opens to traffic today. The full Patras–Pyrgos corridor, extending to Mintilogli in the region of Achaia, will total 74.8 kilometers upon completion and is scheduled to be fully delivered by November 30, 2025.

The new road infrastructure will significantly reduce travel times: the journey between Patras and Pyrgos will now take just 45 minutes, while the Athens–Pyrgos route will last approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.

An official inauguration ceremony took place yesterday, attended by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas, Deputy Minister Konstantinos Kyranakis, and Undersecretary Nikos Tachiaos.

The project includes significant infrastructure works, among them 11 bridges, 41 underpasses, 28 overpasses, and 4 motorway service stations (MSS).

“This is undoubtedly a project of national importance — not only in terms of its technical and financial scale, but also for the broad benefits it brings: improved road safety, social cohesion, regional and national development, and greater openness for our country, which continues to expand its road infrastructure network,” stated Christos Dimas during the ceremony.

Upon completion, Olympia Odos will be Greece’s third-largest motorway, with a total length of 277 kilometers.

According to the Athens–Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), the project had an initial budget of €295 million, while the final cost, including supplementary works, reached €385 million.
