As the first phase of the ceasefire ended yesterday (03.03.2025), Hamas and Israel continue negotiations while also preparing for a possible resumption of the war.
This is because Israel changed its position, presenting a completely new proposal that Hamas had rejected. Israel proposed a seven-week extension of the temporary ceasefire, during which Hamas would have to release half of the remaining live hostages and the bodies of half of the deceased.
At the end of this extension, all remaining hostages would have to be released.
Hamas insists on the original agreement, which includes the withdrawal of the IDF and the exchange of most hostages with Palestinian prisoners.
“Hamas rejected the Israeli terms, issuing a statement on Sunday that described the suspension of aid as ‘cheap blackmail’ and a ‘blatant violation of the agreement.’
Meanwhile, Israel announced on Sunday that it is immediately halting the entry of all goods and humanitarian aid into Gaza, aiming to force Hamas to accept its new proposal.
The suspension of humanitarian aid, excluding water, is likely to cause further difficulties for Palestinian citizens, many of whom are at the start of the holy month of Ramadan. The fuel supply, vital for bakeries, has also been stopped.
