Israel planted explosives in pagers used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon, causing them to explode. So far, at least 11 people have been killed, including a 10-year-old girl, and over 2,700 have been injured.

Hezbollah accused Israel of orchestrating the attack, but Israel has not yet made any comment or claimed responsibility.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, strongly condemned Israel’s ‘terrorist attack’, which claims the ambassador to Beirut, Mojtaba Amani, as one of its injured.

Hezbollah members were using pagers (communication devices) instead of smartphones to avoid Israeli surveillance

According to the NYT, more than 3,000 pagers were ordered and distributed by Hezbollah to its members across Lebanon, with some also reaching its allies in Iran and Syria.

The pagers had been tampered with before arriving in Lebanon, with explosives implanted next to the battery in each device. A switch was also embedded, which appears to have been remotely activated to detonate the explosives.

At 3:30 p.m. in Lebanon, the pagers received a message that seemed to come from Hezbollah’s leadership, which activated the explosives. The devices were also programmed to beep for several seconds before exploding.
