Nassos Gavelas won the gold medal in the 100m track event (T11) at the Paralympic Games, alongside his guide, Yiannis Nifantopoulos, with a time of 11.02 seconds. He was followed by Timothée Adolphe (11.05) and Di Dongdong (11.08).

Gavelas also won gold at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, setting a world record with a time of 10.82 seconds, which he still holds. Last year, he finished first at the World Championships in Paris with a time of 10.93 seconds.

With those two medals, Greece moved up to 33rd place in the medal rankings and 25th in the total medal count.

Two other Greek Paralympians have won consecutive gold medals at the Games: Charalampos Taiganidis in the 100m backstroke S13 at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, and Christos Tampaxis in the 50m backstroke S1 at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. This is Greece’s second gold medal at the Paris Paralympic Games, following Thanasis Konstantinidis’ victory in the F32 shot put.

The Greek team secured another medal today, bringing the total to 11 (two gold, three silver, and six bronze) after Manolis Stefanoudakis won bronze in the javelin throw (F54). This marks his third consecutive Paralympic medal, following his gold in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and bronze in London in 2012.
