At the SYRIZA-PS Political Secretariat meeting yesterday, Pavlos Polakis raised the issue of leadership, stating that “a change is needed.” Meanwhile, Stefanos Kasselakis clarified that he would not resign [1], [2], [3].
During the same meeting, the party leader faced challenges from eight members of the “87” group, also known as the “Tsipras group,” who expressed doubts about SYRIZA-PS’s ability to offer an alternative to the Mitsotakis government under its current leadership.
The developments were triggered by the conflict between Kasselakis and Polakis, which arose from Polakis’s expulsion from the SYRIZA parliamentary group following the incident involving Athina Linou.
Stefanos Kasselakis criticized the actions of those preventing him from entering Parliament, saying they had “again managed to give breathing room to the Mitsotakis regime.” He urged them to “reflect on where they belong emotionally, politically, and morally.”
The eight members who left the meeting said they would not support procedures, behaviors, or decisions that undermine both themselves and the party.
