Trump responded to the Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre, who told him that he opposes the tariffs, that since Norway did not give him the Nobel Peace Prize, he is not obliged to think exclusively about peace, but about what is good for the US, referring to the annexation of Greenland.
“Considering that your country decided not to award me the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping 8 wars,” Trump replied, according to Støre, “I no longer feel obliged to think exclusively about peace, although it will always be paramount, but now I can think about what is good and right for the United States of America.”
The Norwegian government replies that it has no authority regarding the awarding of the Peace Prize.
Thus, Denmark, following Trump’s new threats, sent additional troops to Greenland on Monday. In fact, in a post today on Truth Social, Trump implies that Greenland will have been annexed by the US within 2026.
So far, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Norway have avoided openly imposing retaliatory tariffs in response to Trump’s threat on Saturday to impose 10% tariffs on them for their opposition to the takeover of the semi-autonomous Danish territory by the US.
Meanwhile, before Trump’s new threat, there had been the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize by the winner, Maria Corina Machado, to Trump.
