In the longest speech in modern U.S. political history (1 hour, 40 minutes) before Congress, Donald Trump discussed his actions during the first six weeks of his presidency.
He argued that deporting immigrants and imposing tariffs on major trade partners, including Mexico, Canada, and China, are necessary to restore U.S. strength, stating, “We’ve only just begun.”
“We’ve accomplished more in 43 days than most governments do in four or eight years – and we’ve only just begun,” he said.
Trump criticized the Biden administration, blaming his predecessor for many of the country’s issues, including high prices overall and the rising cost of eggs specifically. He also claimed that schools are now filled with children influenced by “trans ideology.”
Following the suspension of U.S. aid to Ukraine, the EU announced one of the largest defense spending packages in its history, totaling €800 billion.
Trump said he was ready to restore relations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a day after temporarily halting U.S. military aid to Ukraine. He stated that the U.S. is now “ready to come to the negotiating table for peace.”
Earlier, Trump’s new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China took effect, sparking a trade dispute that could significantly impact the U.S. economy. The potential retaliatory measures from key trade partners have already raised concerns among businesses, investors, and economists.
