Two traffic police officers and a third person were killed early this morning in a car explosion in Moscow. The blast was caused by an explosive device that was activated when the officers approached a “suspect” individual near their patrol car, on a street in southern Moscow, according to Russian authorities. Russian Telegram channels close to the security services claim that the third person killed was likely planting the bomb.
The explosion occurred less than one kilometer from the site where senior Russian general Fanil Sarvarov was killed the day before yesterday by a bomb in his car, but it is not clear whether the incidents are linked.
It is the third bombing in Moscow in 2025 in which a Russian official connected to the invasion of Ukraine has been killed.
Russian authorities believe that Ukrainian intelligence services were behind the killing of Sarvarov, who was head of the army’s operational training, but Ukraine has not claimed responsibility. Nevertheless, it is the third bombing in Moscow in 2025 in which a Russian official linked to the invasion of Ukraine has been killed.
Ukrainian intelligence services have targeted dozens of Russian military officers, as well as officials installed by Russia, since the start of the war, accusing them of involvement in war crimes.
