University admission thresholds for the country’s universities were announced yesterday, with the theoretical schools recording a drop, the polytechnic schools rising and the medical schools remaining stable.

The School of Medicine at the University of Athens was again one of the most sought-after departments in the country this year, with the university admission threshold topping the list with 18,775 marks. In fact, the medical schools did not confirm the predictions of a drop in the university admission threshold: the Athens Medical School remained at 18,775 points, the Thessaloniki Medical School at 18,575 (+25 points), the Patras Medical School at 18,445 (-15 points) and the Ioannina Medical School remained at 18,200 points.

At the same time, the School of Law of EKPA had the highest number of first preferences in the field of theoretical sciences.

The biggest increase was recorded in the Department of International European Studies at PAPEI by 2,195 points, reaching 19,295.

A total of 232 university admission thresholds went up and 200 went down, with these fluctuations leaving 30,000+ candidates out of the HEI, at a time when the minimum university admission threshold will leave 11,000 places vacant.

The total number of candidates for selection was 70,276, of which 59,822 candidates under the GCE procedures and 10,454 candidates under the EPAL procedures, but the actual number of candidates was about 95,000, but “cut” due to the minimum university admission threshold.

A total of 62,848 candidates from the GEL and EPAL were admitted to Universities, Higher Ecclesiastical Academies, ASPAITE, ASTE, Military and Police Schools and the Fire Brigade, Merchant Navy and Coast Guard Academies.
