Hezbollah launched hundreds of rockets and drones at Israel on Sunday. At the same time, the IDF responded with around 100 aircraft attacking Lebanon in one of the largest clashes in over 10 months along the two countries’ borders.
Hezbollah reported that it had targeted Israeli territory, including a “significant military site,” without specifying the exact location. They also announced that they had completed the “first phase” of their retaliation for the killing of Fuad Shukr, a senior figure in their military wing, during which 11 Israeli military installations were struck.
On the other hand, the Israeli armed forces reported that most of their bombings, at least 40, targeted sites in southern Lebanon. They also made it clear that they would strike any location they believe threatens them.
Hamas and Israel did not reach a ceasefire agreement, as neither side accepted the proposal from the mediators (the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt).
Three people were killed in Lebanon and one in Israel, with both sides expressing relief at avoiding a larger escalation but warning of future attacks.
Daily exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah continue, and concerns about a full-scale war have increased following the deaths of Fuad Shukr in an Israeli airstrike on a southern suburb of Beirut and Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, in Tehran.
Since October 7, over 600 people have been killed in Lebanon, mainly Hezbollah fighters but also 131 civilians, including journalists, according to AFP.
In Israel and the occupied Golan Heights, 23 soldiers and 26 civilians have been killed, according to official Israeli figures.
