Iran launched around 180 missiles at Israel last night in response to Israeli attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, as well as the killings of senior officials from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, Hezbollah, and Hamas.

Those killed included Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Abbas Nilforoshan, and Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh.

A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei personally ordered Tuesday’s missile strike.

One Palestinian in the West Bank was killed by shrapnel from the attack. Israel reported no serious injuries, though doctors in Tel Aviv confirmed two people sustained minor injuries from shrapnel.

Iran’s most recent attack on Israel took place in April, with around 140 missiles launched in response to an Israeli attack on Iran’s embassy in Syria.

An Israeli security official said that Israel’s air defense systems intercepted most of the missiles. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claim that 90% of the missiles hit Israeli military targets and security infrastructure. Iranian state television reported that 80% of the strikes targeted specific locations.

U.S. President Joe Biden reaffirmed U.S. support for Israel after the missile attack, calling it “ineffective.” Israeli Prime Minister B. Netanyahu vowed “retaliation against Iran.”
