According to a report by Kathimerini, an international television piracy network with 22 million users has been dismantled, leading to 11 arrests and a broadcast “blackout” in several countries, including Greece.
The operation, codenamed “Taken Down,” was based in Catania, Italy, where 270 specially trained police officers conducted 89 searches across almost all regions of Italy. Another 14 searches were conducted in six European countries: the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Romania, and Croatia.
Prosecutions for illegal connections can result in heavy fines, confiscation of electronic devices, and even prison sentences.
As the report notes, users are responsible for their actions and may face criminal prosecution by the authorities in their country or other countries if their illegal subscriptions are found in the customer lists seized during the raids, as their actions may violate international laws.
Prosecutions for piracy connections can result in heavy fines, confiscation of electronic devices, and even prison sentences. User identification is carried out by analyzing the data from the seized illegal systems, which store information on each pirated subscription.
