Twenty-six countries, including Germany, Italy, and Poland, will provide security guarantees to Ukraine once the war with Russia ends, French President Emmanuel Macron announced after a summit in Paris. The meeting brought together European leaders seeking clarity on the level of support Donald Trump is prepared to extend to Kyiv.

According to Macron, the guarantees will involve international air, naval, and ground forces. “The day the conflict ends, these security guarantees will take effect,” he said at a press conference at the Élysée Palace, standing alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The allied countries are part of the “coalition of the willing,” a group of 35 nations supporting Ukraine, mainly European states along with Canada, Australia, and Japan.

Initially, Macron suggested that all 26 nations would deploy forces inside Ukraine, though not on the front lines. He later clarified that some countries may contribute from outside Ukraine by providing training or equipment to Kyiv’s forces. He did not specify how many troops would be involved.

Zelenskyy welcomed the initiative, calling it a crucial step toward long-term stability. The Kremlin, however, described the plan as a threat to Russia.

Thursday’s gathering of the 35-nation “coalition of the willing” was aimed at finalizing the guarantees and pressing the US president for the backing that European leaders say is essential to make the plan viable.
